Twitter vs Threads: Where Should You Actually Post in 2025?

I posted the same content on both Twitter and Threads for 30 days straight. Here's what I learned.

The Experiment

The Setup:

  • Same content posted at the same time
  • Same topics (tech, marketing, productivity)
  • Similar follower counts (Twitter: 2.8K, Threads: 2.3K)
  • No paid promotion on either
  • **Goal:** Figure out which platform is actually worth my time.

    The Results (Raw Numbers)

    After 30 days:

    Twitter:

  • Total impressions: 47,300
  • Average engagement rate: 2.3%
  • New followers: 147
  • Best performing post: 1,200 impressions
  • Threads:

  • Total impressions: 68,900
  • Average engagement rate: 4.7%
  • New followers: 289
  • Best performing post: 3,400 impressions
  • **Winner: Threads** (but keep reading - it's not that simple)

    What Twitter Does Better

    1. **Conversation Quality**

Twitter comments are more thoughtful. People actually engage with ideas.

Threads comments? Mostly "🔥" and "Great post!"

    2. **Professional Networking**

If you're in tech, marketing, or business, your audience is on Twitter. Threads feels more... casual.

    3. **Search & Discovery**

Twitter's search actually works. Threads? Good luck finding that post you saw yesterday.

    4. **Community Building**

Twitter Lists, Spaces, Communities - better tools for building your audience.

    What Threads Does Better

    1. **Organic Reach**

Threads pushes your content to non-followers. Twitter keeps it in your bubble.

My Threads posts consistently reached 2-3x more people than Twitter.

    2. **Lower Competition**

Fewer people posting = your content stands out more. Twitter is oversaturated.

    3. **Friendlier Algorithm**

Threads seems to reward consistency. Post regularly and you'll get reach.

    Twitter's algorithm is... unpredictable.

    4. **Less Toxic**

No culture wars in your replies (yet). Comments are generally positive.

    Content That Works on Each

    Twitter:

  • Hot takes on industry news
  • Technical insights
  • Thread breakdowns (still works)
  • Memes (obviously)
  • Threads:

  • Personal stories
  • Behind-the-scenes
  • Visual content
  • Lighter, more casual posts
  • The Honest Assessment

    Use Twitter if:

  • You're in B2B or professional services
  • You need thoughtful discussions
  • Your audience is tech-savvy
  • You're building a professional brand
  • Use Threads if:

  • You want quick growth
  • You prefer positive vibes
  • You're targeting a broader audience
  • You're just starting out
  • My Current Strategy

    I use both, but differently:

    Twitter (3x per week):

  • Professional insights
  • Industry commentary
  • Networking
  • Threads (5x per week):

  • Personal stories
  • Quick tips
  • Engagement bait (yes, it works)
  • The Time Investment

    **Twitter:** 20-30 min per post

  • Craft the perfect hook
  • Thread it out properly
  • Engage with replies
  • **Threads:** 5-10 min per post

  • Simpler format
  • Less pressure to be "perfect"
  • Engagement happens automatically
  • Should You Pick One?

Honestly? **Do both if you can.**

But if you can only pick one:

  • **Early-stage creator?** → Threads (easier growth)
  • **Established professional?** → Twitter (better audience quality)
  • The Bottom Line

Threads wins on numbers. Twitter wins on quality.

I'm keeping both, but I've adjusted my expectations for each.
